Introduction
Human Resource
Management (HRM) is an operation in companies designed to maximize employee
performance in order to meet the employer’s strategic goals and objectives.
Every organization has many roles and HRM plays as an essential role. It is the lifeblood of many organizations. The primary role of the HR department is to invest in an organization’s human capital, implementing a range of activities that enable them to deliver the most efficient and effective economic output.
Human
Resources activities fall under 7 core functions. Recruitment and Selection, Training and
Development, Performance Management, Employee Relations, Employment Law and
Compliance, Compensation and Benefits and Administration, Payroll & HR
Systems.
What are
the HR functions?
HR
functions are the main responsibilities of the HR department in a business. Each
of these basic functions falls into a wide range of activities that involve a
concern for employee well-being that is balanced with the needs of the company.
Departments of Human Resources carry out these activities to ensure that the
institution treats the employee in a way that is mutually beneficial to the
employee and the overall business objectives
Seven core
functions of HR

1. Recruitment & selection
Recruitment
and selection are a main function of HR. These include identifying role
requirements, writing job descriptions, defining role requirements and setting
the right candidate's skills set, salary budgeting, advertising to the right
people, testing, interviewing and choosing the best person.
2. Training
and Development
Human
resource training and development is essential to address the skills or
training deficiencies among employees and to provide them with the tools they
need to strengthen their skills, enhance their confidence, and function more
effectively
3. Performance Management
After
giving employees about 1 year of service, a performance appraisal is organized
to test their performance. Future promotions, incentives and increments will be
determined based on these assessments.
4. Employee Relation
There
are two primary functions of employee relations (ER). First, it helps prevent
and resolve issues or disputes between HR employees and management. Second,
they assist in the formulation and enforcement of fair and consistent policies
for the entire workforce.
All HR
professionals should be familiar and up-to-date on employment law and ensure
that corporate policies, procedures and benefits comply with the latest laws.
Compensation
and benefits can be a favorite human resource function of every employee.
Company benefit offered to their employees’ social security, pensions, personal
health insurance, longevity benefits, corporate discounts, paid leave, paid
sick leave, childcare, profit sharing, gym membership and much more.
7. Administration, Payroll and HR system
System
development, maintenance of employee data, tax calculation, determination of
working hours and vacation time, and payment of salaries are general
administrative duties that fall under human resources.
